Leana Simper
Teaching Highlights
Leana began dancing when she was 3 years old and has studied Classical, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Lyrical & Acrobatics. In Year 10, Leana was accepted to study at The Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School. Leana studied the Cecchetti syllabus and completed her exams up until Advanced 1 achieving very high results.

Leana began assisting at Niche Dance Studios (formerly East Ivanhoe School of Dance) when she was just 14 years old. She then went on to become a teacher and take classes in Jazz, Contemporary, Cecchetti Exams, private lessons, competition classes and much more. Her exam students achieved excellent results with many receiving a perfect score of 100%. Leana has been co-teaching the acrobatic dance program with Stacy Mitchell at Niche Dance Studios and also teaches the acrobatics exam classes. She is qualified to teach The Acrobatic Dance Association syllabus, Acrobatic Arts syllabus and Alixa Flexibility Course.

Leana works closely with Stacy Mitchell, founder of The Acrobatic Dance Association as a trainer. She has helped to teach many dance teachers across Australia how to safely integrate acrobatics into their dance programs. The training courses also involve training teachers on how to correctly spot acrobatic steps and the correct technique involved.

Leana currently runs the Acrobatic Dance program at The Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School. Leana took over the program in 2018 and works with the Year 7, 8 & 9 students closely.

Leana has taught at many schools over the years including Niche Dance Studios, Dance Discovery, Bev Palmers Performing Arts, Victorian Dance Academy, Eternal Dance Studio, Linda Jean Dance Academy and Melissa's Dance Elements.

Career Highlights
Leana made her first professional debut at 14 performing in a choir with Dame Tiri De Kanawa.
She has performed at many events including Myer Christmas Parades, Mazda car launches, Weddings, Corporate functions, Vodafone International events and many more.

Many of the students from Niche Dance Studios where Leana is based have gone on to study at VCASS and perform professionally. Some of these performances include cheerleading for Melbourne Storm, touring with the 'Fastlove' George Michael tribute show as well as performing in various corporate events. Niche also has students performing internationally with various ballet companies.

In 2019, Leana decided to start running her own dance competitions. Having been a part of the competition scene since the age of 7 she is no stranger to the ins and outs of the competition world. Leana finds it frustrating that some competitions think there is a 'one size fits all' adjudicator. Starstruck Dance Competition employs adjudicators based on their experience within either the 'ballet stream' or the 'theatrical stream'. Each adjudicator has a wealth of knowledge within the genres they adjudicate.
